Las Vegas Citizens' Committee for Historic Preservation Culture and Heritage Center
116 Bridge Street
Las Vegas, NM 87701
Hours of Operation
The Historic and Culture Center was formed in 1977 to encourage the preservation and appreciation of our area's historic resources for the benefit of the community. During the 2019 Fiber Crawl, the center will feature several display cases of the Spanish Colonial Colcha embroidery. The majority of the work displayed will be that of Beatrice Maestas Sandoval. Sandoval will be present each day of the Crawl for demonstrations and visiting as to her traditional techniques in spinning, dying and embroidery. Sandoval believes in teaching the youth, as she has learned from her ancestors, so the fiber arts will not be lost.
Location and Space
The Historic and Culture Center is centrally located at 116 Bridge Street, the main street into the Plaza Historic District of Las Vegas. The center accommodates more than 50 at any one time. There is ample parking on the street as well as a parking lot on Valencia Street, located to the north of Bridge Street. The entrance is accessible and restrooms available.
The center has published historical books/booklets of the people and area and could offer a selection. Beatrice has been asked to donate an item, that was not decided in time for the application. Something will be offered.
